Murder investigation launched after a woman is killed in Co Louth stabbing incident

Gardaí in Co Louth have launched a murder investigation after a woman aged in her 30s was killed in stabbing incident in Dundalk on Tuesday.

It is believed the woman who was a Lithuanian national sustained a number of stab wounds during the incident which occurred on Linehall Street at approximately 2:45pm yesterday afternoon.

Although the woman was quickly rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, she was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí say a man aged in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the incident and he is currently being held at Dundalk Garda Station.

They added an investigation into the incident is continuing.
