The Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy will remain in his position after a motion of no confidence in the Minister was defeated in the Dáil on Tuesday night.

Mr Murphy who has come under increased pressure regarding the current housing and homeless crisis just managed to beat the vote which was submitted on the behalf of Sinn Féin.

Following a day of speculation surrounding his position the motion of no confidence was defeated by 59 votes to 49.

It is believed that all Fine Gael TDs backed Mr Murphy to remain in his position, whilst the Housing Minister had the backing of both the Independent Alliance and Independent TDs.

However what might considered to be key decision on regards to Mr Murphy’s future was the fact that Fianna Fáil abstained from voting.
