One of the most shocking revelations to appear on the Irish social landscape over the past number of years is the recent survey which states a staggering 21% of Irish people think it’s OK to have dex without consent in certain situations.

One must question the validity of even asking such a blatantly obvious question. How on earth is sex without consent ever even something that should be contemplated never mind condoned.

A higher percentage of men said they believe in certain situations, having sex without concent is acceptable, for example, if a woman is intoxicated or walking home alone.

The disgusting theories have been debunk by various groups who claim young men subjecting themselves to all sorts of depraved pornography, where women are acting out rape scenes, are a major cause for their real life views on women.

Let’s cut to the chase here, there’s no exceptions ever, none. There’s no such thing as sex without consent. Sex is only acceptable between two adults who give each other permission, in full acknowledgement of same.

The culture of sex without consent needs to be eradicated, and fast at it.

A culture of respect, decency and one in which can recognise the difference between right and wrong must prevail.

There’s no such thing as “sex without consent”, it’s simply called rape.
