National Slow Down Day: 341 drivers were caught speeding yesterday with one exceeding 139km/h

Gardai say they’re satisfied with their results obtained yesterday with 341 cars caught speeding. One car was travelling at 138km/h in an 80km/h zone while two other vehicles were detected travelling 50% above the speed limit.

Gardaí checked a total of 135,010 vehicles between 7am yesterday and 7am today with over 90% driving within the speed limit.
The major incidents of speeders yesterday were:

138km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Belgard Road, Tallaght, Dublin
91km/h in a 60km/h zone on the N21 at Croagh, Rathkeale, Limerick
75km/h in a 50km/h zone on the R445 at Ballymany, Newbridge, Kildare
107km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R498 at Fishmoyne, Borrisoleigh, Tipperary
139km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N5 at Drummindoo, Westport, Mayo
130km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N25 at Loughaderry, Midleton, Cork
129km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N13 Treantaboy, Drumkeen, Donegal
83km/h in a 60km/h zone on the N69 Billeragh, Listowel, Kerry
69km/h on a 50km/h zone on the R712 Pennefatherslot, Kilkenny, Kilkenny
89km/h in a 60km/h zone on the L3042 Fortyacres, Piercetown, Wexford
88km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R586 Murragh, Enniskeane, Cork
65km/h in a 50km/h zone on the N80 Newtownbarry, Bunclody, Wexford
62km/h in a 50km/h zone on the R245 at Ballyraine, Letterkenny, Donegal
