Near miss: Pilot in Australia falls asleep in the cockpit and misses his destination by 30 miles

A pilot in Australia is said to have overshot his destination after he fell asleep in the cockpit.

Somehow the man managed to wake up in time to land safely but he overshot his destination by 30 miles.

The incident has been classified as a case of “incapacitation”, and is being investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

The pilot was the only person onboard the Piper PA-31 aircraft, operated by Vortex Air, and he had been due to complete the 240km trip at 07:15 local time.

The ATSB released a brief statement:
“During the cruise, the pilot fell asleep, resulting in the aircraft overflying King Island by 46 kilometres,”.

It’s one of the ultimate fears of those afraid of flying. Tell us what you think in the Facebook post comments?
