The issue of paternity leave here in Ireland has always proved controversial, as working fathers always have to either resort to using their holidays or take unpaid leave if they wish to spend some time with their babies.

But that inequality may be about to change, as Equality Minister Aodhan O’Riordain has stated that he is confident that a new provision for two weeks paid leave will be included in the Family Leave Bill, which is currently being drafted up.

The Family Leave Bill is due to be introduced by the end of this year.
