The HSE has launched a new hospital triage system which prioritises children.
The Irish Children’s Triage System will help children to be seen and treated quicker in hospitals across the country. Up until now children had been assessed using the same system as adults.
Doctors and nurses agreed that given the aged-related physiological differences with children, their specific symptoms and paediatric diagnoses, a new system was greatly needed.
Children make upa quarter of all attendances at regional emergency departments.
