A new hydroelectric energy station is set to be built at the site of a disused mine in Co. Tipperary.

The exciting €650m project is being built at Silvermines. It is expected that the station will be able to generate enough power for 200,000 households.

Further positivity stems from this announcement as four hundred jobs will be created during the construction phase. A further 50 full-time jobs will be created at the plant when it is operational.

This will be the second plant of this type in the country, along with the ESB’s Turlough Hill facility.
