The Government will push ahead with plans to build the new maternity hospital on grounds owned by the Sisters of Charity, thus granting full control of the facility to the religious order.
According to a Government spokesperson, ‘legal deals’ will be put in place to ensure clinical independence.
Minister for Health Simon Harris has also ruled out any compulsory purchase order for the land, paving the way for full ownership by the Sisters.
