New Government proposals may see first-time drink driving offenders banned for three months.
Any driver caught over the limit would automatically be banned from driving for 90 days, instead of receiving the current three penalty points.
The proposal, which has not yet been signed into law, will be discussed when the Dáil resumes in the Autumn.
