New report calls for more funding and overall improvements to be made to the mental health sector

A newly published report by an Oireachtas Committee on mental health has outlined at least 30 recommendations on how to improve health services for mental health patients.

The new report which has been carried out following an extensive review of mental health services and treatment options, has recommended that more funding and greater access should be provided to all especially those who are of the travelling community, migrants and the LGBQT community.

It also recommends that alternative treatment options should be implemented and doctors should not overly rely on prescription medicine treatments.

The report which has a 30 point plan has also called for more funding to be pumped into mental health services with more recruiting and training programs being created.

It also suggest that those working in all areas of the health sector should be given mental health training, whilst a review is also being considered to see whether or not services can be rolled out online.
