New survey reveals 10% of people admit to putting rubbish into their neighbour’s bin to avoid bin charges

Wheelie Bins

10% of people have admitted to throwing rubbish into their neighbour’s bin at night to avoid charges. The staggering statistic comes from a survey from Macra na Feirme.

Bin charges seem to be the new version of Irish Water, with the entire country up in arms over the proposed increases in charges. From pay-per-weight to fixed costs, bin charges are an extremely contenitous subject at present.

The survey also found that 5% of people actually had a row with the neighbours of throwing rubbish in their bin. 41% of those surveyed said that they are friendly with their neighbours but that they never socialise with them.

President of Macra na Feirme Sean Finan has said:
“It is very important because you may not realise the day or the hour that you may need to call on your neighbour to help you out in time of difficulty.
That can be the case in both rural and urban area, you might find yourself in difficulty where you might have to call on your neighbours.
It is important to know you can call on your neighbour in time of difficulty.”
