Tougher penalties to punish those caught drink driving came into effect last night.
From this point on, those people caught behind the wheel while over the alcohol limit will face automatic disqualification from driving for three months, and a fine of €200.
The bill was passed last July, but its implementation was delayed due to political opposition from rural TDs.
