As Coptic Christians were attending religious services in Egypt today to celebrate Palm Sunday the start of the Holy Week ceremonies for the Christian community, when a terrorist denoted a bomb in St. George’s Coptic Church in the city of Tanta in the district of the Nile Delta that has killed 21 people and injuring scores more.
It was timed for maximum impact, as the congregation gathered to mark Palm Sunday services. Provincial governor Ahmad Deif told the state-run Nile channel “Either a bomb was planted or someone blew himself up.”
A search is now under way for more explosives which could be in the vicinity of the location.
A second bomb has been reported in another church with multiple injuries reported.
