An “agreed deal” between Ireland, the UK and EU was on the table this morning but around lunchtime the DUP took exception at a possibility that Northern Ireland would have “different rules” to the rest of the UK.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May phoned Arlene Foster during lunch but a deal between the two women couldn’t be agreed.
That Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said that the Irish government had agreed to the text of the deal and they were disappointed at developments throughout the day.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that it wasn’t possible to reach agreement on Brexit negotiations today but it still should be possibled before December 15th.
