Sinn Fein claim that a power-sharing agreement in Northern Ireland is highly unlikely in the short term.
The latest deadline for a power-sharing agreement went out the window on Thursday. The Northern Ireland Secretary James Brokenshire is set to give a statement to the House of Commons later on today.
Conor Murphy, the Sinn Fein negotiator, accused the Democratic Unionists of refusing to move on outstanding disputes.
“We don’t see any urgency in terms of the DUP approach to this and we don’t expect and don’t think it is likely that there will be a deal in the short term because there is that lack of urgency,” Mr Murphy said.
One of the main issues is over Sinn Fein’s call for an act officially protecting the Irish language. The DUP wants reciprocal protections for Ulster-Scots speakers.
