No end in sight: General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions says current Luas strikes are ‘regrettable’ as they show no signs of ending

The Luas strike action is far from over according to the General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

According to Patricia King there will be no settlement soon as both Luas Drivers and Transdev are miles apart from reaching an agreement over pay. Ms King told RTE that the effects of the current strike on the travelling public was highly regrettable.

Ms King further explained: “The last set of proposals in this dispute were rejected by 165 votes to two. To suggest that you can settle a dispute on lesser terms, and to suggest that the only way you will settle the dispute is on those lesser terms is not conducive to parties coming to a settlement.”

“At this moment in time I see no indication – unless something changes…I don’t see any early settlement to the dispute unfortunately.”

Ms King’s comments come as drivers will carry our further work stoppages over the current weeks and months ahead.
