No sympathy: Disgraceful 15-yr-old boy overdoses on ecstasy last night when celebrating Junior Cert

A 15-yr-old boy was found in D’Olier St in Dublin’s city centre at 9pm last night with a suspected ecstasy overdose.

The boy was out “celebrating” his Junior Cert results with friends. His life was gravely in danger only for the help of the ambulance personnel who carted the boy off to St James’ hospital where he got his stomach pumped and put on a drip.

The Gardai said last night was a heavy night with teenagers out after their results came in. The danger that goes hand in hand with young people, alcohol and drugs speaks for itself.

But there comes a time when we must look past peer pressure and society. What sort of parenting are we dealing with? Parents must shoulder the blame in a case like this. The way a child is brought up determines the decisions they make. Their confidence and knowledge of knowing the difference between right and wrong stems from their parent. More importantly, making that right decision comes straight from their parents.

We need less “OMG, you’re an angel now” comments on Facebook and more “well done on being taught better and using your head when it matters”.
