The Irish Credit Bureau (ICB) has today confirmed that the nonpayment of water bills will not affect a person’s credit rating.
The bureau was responding to misleading comments to the contrary been seen in different media over the last few days.
‘Only the failure to repay a loan would affect a person’s credit worthiness,’ a spokesman for the bureau said. ‘The ICB only deals with financial institutions, not utility companies,’ the spokesman added.
Elsewhere, a Government representative refused to be drawn on whether or not Irish Water would become a member of the ICB.
