The Government have moved to reassure the public this evening by confirming that the state pension will not be scrapped.
It is thought the official announcement comes after media reports suggested that the pension would be scrapped in the coming years ahead.
The confirmation comes after a recent paper published by Pensions Authority, suggested a scenario where the state pension would be scrapped in favour of workers pension scheme.
However the Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty quashed all rumours this evening, saying the suggestion was not being considered and that the state pension will undoubtedly remain in place for many years to come.
