A wide sweeping and intense crackdown on terrorism is taking place in China. The Chinese government has been engaged in an unprecedented counter-terrorism operation targeting the Muslim minority, that is focused mainly in the west of the country.
The majority of China’s Muslim population belong to the Uyghur ethnic group and some Human Rights organizations have alleged human rights violations by Chinese government in its anti-terror operation.
China has been blighted by terrorism conducted by Islamist separatists but has been accused of taking its war on terror too far, even going so far as to harshly punish any public Islamic displays and banning the Burka and “abnormal beards” and certain traditional Muslim names.
