Nurses strike action to go ahead as planned after early talks breakdown

The nursing strike which is set to take place later this month will still go ahead as planned after talks between the INMO and the Public Service Stability Agreement Oversight Group broke down this afternoon.

In an effort to avert strike action later this month talks between the two parties came to a stalemate as no resolution was reached.

It is understood that there was no significant breakthrough in negotiations and the INMO say strike action scheduled for January and February will go ahead as planned.

It is understood that both the INMO and the Psychiatric Nurses Association want the government to improve the current pay structure in order to retain and recruit staff.

However the Government say there is no room for an pay improvements and that both parties planned strike action is in breach of the current pay agreement.

It is expected that talks will resume on Monday.
