Claims that the Obama administration placed immigrant children crossing the border with child traffickers have been confirmed.
President Trump had said earlier this week that the Democrats in the US had enabled a ‘massive child smuggling industry’.
A 2015 criminal case and a 2016 Senate Report revealed that the U.S government had handed an unknown number of children who cross the border illegally over to human traffickers.
This came about after the Obama administration neglected to enact basic background checks of adults crossing the border with children. President Trump however, who has strived to combat Human Trafficking, has commented on this saying ‘we do not know if the children crossing the border are with guardians or traffickers.’
It was as a result of this scandal that multiple agencies recommended that the law enacted by President Clinton in 1996 separating adults from minors crossing the border illegally be more rigorously enforced.
