‘Oh You Pretty Things’: The Late David Bowie tops both the U.S. and UK charts with his new album ‘Blackstar’

It has been confirmed late last night that one of music’s all time greats the late David Bowie has hit the top spot in both the UK and US charts with his new album ‘Blackstar’.

Bowie who tragically passed away last week aged 69 after a long battle with cancer, claimed top spot in the U.S. 200 Billboard chart, after selling 181,000 copies in its first week of release, knocking Adele’s ’25’ off the top spot. Bowie’s 27th Studio LP sold a massive 174,000 in pure sales, making it the musical legend biggest week of sales since electronic tracking of point-of-sale music purchases began back in 1991.

Meanwhile a total of nine previous albums by the ‘Starman’ singer also made their way into the Billboard 200 chart this week, which included the ‘Best of Bowie’ Bowie’ greatest hits originally released back in 2002, made its way in at number four, whilst ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’ came in at number 21.

Bowie’s U.S. success was equally matched in the UK, with ‘Blackstar’ taking the number one spot after sales of 150,000.
