Win, lose or draw, we have proven to Europe and indeed the world that we truly are great sports people. We don’t cause violence, we don’t fight with our opposition or hurl bottles and chairs at police.
The fans have shown the true Irish spirit of fun, friendliness and decency (remember tyre changing pic?).
We have seen, shared, liked and commented on videos showing Irish fans in great spirits regardless of the situation, circumstance or result. We surely are telling and indeed showing the world that Ireland is the land of one thousand welcomes, a friendly place full of fun, banter and joy.
Of course a few jars loosen the atmosphere, but we’ve even proven that we’ll clean up after ourselves too!
With the sights in Marseille last week showing Russian paramilitary-type gangs causing havoc, the smiles of the green army will live on in France and beyond. We’re not just the best fans in the world, the Irish fans are the best ambassadors we have.
