Artist Kevin Sharkey has confirmed that he is no longer seeking nominations for a Presidential election run.
In an announcement made via Twitter this afternoon, Mr Sharkey said he was withdrawing from the race as he didn’t want to become part of the farce.
Mr Sharkey’s decision comes after a number of candidates secured nominations late last week including Independent Senator Joan Freeman, and businessmen Sean Gallagher and Gavin Duffy.
Meanwhile Sinn Féin have nominated Liadh Ní Riada to contest the upcoming election which will also see current President Michael D Higgins seeking a second term in office.
