Outgoing Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams claims that Brexit will be disastrous for the people of Ireland

The outgoing Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has claimed Brexit will have a disastrous outcome for the people of Ireland.

Mr Adams who will vacate his role as Sinn Féin leader later this month, said the British government’s stance on the issue is unclear.

The Sinn Féin leader said the issue must not be exploited and that the British Government must outline clear guidelines with the EU when it comes to leaving the single market.

Adams who was speaking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr programme, said that Britain’s threat to leave the customs Union could be potentially disastrous for the people of Ireland.

However Mr Adams did state he hoped for that a special status for Northern Ireland would be considered in any future negotiations.

He added that the current negotiation process has been fairly contradictory.
