District judge Nigel Cadbury made such ill-advised comments the day after Karen’s remains were discovered at farmland in north Glasgow.
He said that Karen Buckley ‘put herself in a vulnerable position’ after drinking with friends, implying that the young woman had only herself to blame for what happened.
The judge passed the comments as he sentenced a 21-year-old woman for assaulting another female outside a bar.
He said “It’s very, very worrying how young girls put themselves in such very, very vulnerable positions.”
And added that he found it “very, very worrying” young women drank so much they couldn’t remember who they were with.
The judge’s comments sparked an angry reaction from campaigners for women’s rights, who slammed his attitude by accusing him of making the “perpetrators of crimes invisible.”
