Dublin City Council have confirmed that they will spend in the region of €500,000 on lowering the height of a flood protection wall in Clontarf.

In a vote which was held on Monday evening councillors decided to amend the height of the wall which was put in place as part of a €5m cycle path investment last year.

It is understood the reduction of the height will be made after a number of residents claimed the wall restricted views of Dublin bay.

In a statement made earlier today the city council say the wall will be reduced by 30cm and that its new height will not restrict views for pedestrians or residents in the area.

It is expected the city council will spend around €230,000 on lowering the height of the wall whilst a further €300,000 will be spent on capping and cladding.
