Over 2,000 people have to the streets in Waterford City this afternoon in protest over the lack of adequate cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford.

According to RTÉ News the large protest comes after the South-Southwest Hospital Group recommended that a ten week extension should be added to the existing mobile cath lab contract.

The decision which has been widely criticised by the people of Waterford and Independent TD John Halligan, has seen many people take to the streets in protest.

RTÉ say the protestors have voiced their disapproval of the recommendation, with many saying the proposal is not enough and that more needs to be done.

The proposal which was submitted to the Minister for Health Simon Harris this week is thought to come as the mobile cath lab is due to be removed from the hospital next week.
