The nations biggest electricity supplier the ESB has confirmed in the past hour that over 50,000 homes and businesses are without power this evening.
According to RTÉ News residents in the West are without power after 130km/h winds battered the region this afternoon.
The ESB say every attempt will be made to restore power but it may not be until Wednesday afternoon until crews can repair the damage.
Customers will most likely be left without power overnight as storm Eleanor is set to bring strong winds throughout the night.
