Management at one of the country’s biggest hospitals have issued a notice warning people not to attend its Emergency Department unless absolutely necessary.

The overcrowding crisis at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital has become so bad that management say they are currently instigating a number of measures to combat difficult conditions being experienced by patients and staff.

The hospital say they are asking patients to contact their GP before attending the hospital, and are also asking those who experience minor injuries to instead attend the Mater’s injury clinic.

It is also understood that GPs are being urged not to send patients to the Emergency Department except in the case of emergency. The news comes as the hospital has experienced a relentless overcrowding crisis in recent months which has forced them to issue similar statements in the past advising people not to attend the hospital.
