Parents urged to monitor their child’s online activities after a young child is sent an ‘inappropriate’ message on Xbox Live




Parents are being urged to monitor their child’s online activity through gaming consoles’ after a child in the North received an inappropriate message from another user recently.

The warning comes as police have begun an investigation after the unnamed child was sent an “inappropriate message” on Xbox Live.

According to Belfast Live the police investigation comes after the child alerted his parents about the message which he was sent whilst playing a popular game on the console.

Although the child at the centre of the investigation was unharmed he was asked to give personal details to a fellow gamer which caused great concern amongst his parents and investigating officers.

A police spokesperson has said although the child in this instance acted swiftly and alerted his parents, many vulnerable children are being targeted by predators through the online service which is hugely popular amongst children and teenagers.

The spokesperson added parents must be more aware of their childs online activities as they are being deliberately targeted by highly dangerous individuals, they also urged parents to talk to their children about the dangers of interacting with strangers online.
