Irish parents have been warned to be on alert as a new trend is sweeping across the country that could potentially cause a risk to the lives of young children.

The latest craze which has been highlighted on the Republic of Edenderry Facebook page, has caused great concern for many parents as teenagers and young children are taking part in a game that dares them to wrap their entire head in cling film.

In a issue which was highlighted by a concerned member of the public in the Co Offaly town over the past week, it is believed the group of youths were taking part in the dangerous game in order to see who could hold their breath the longest.

Although thankfully no one was seriously injured or harmed in the alleged incident, children’s advocacy groups have become more concerned about the number of dangerous trends sweeping across the country in recent years.

The groups which have called on parents to inform their children of the dangers of such games, say that although the children involved may only think it is a bit of fun to take part in the challenge, it is in fact highly dangerous as it could potentially cause someone to lose their life.

They added children should be made more aware of the breathing complications and other issues that could arise from taking part in such a game.
