The Department of Foreign Affairs have revealed they expect the applications for Irish passports to surpass one million by the end of 2017.
The predication comes after recent figures showed that there was a 26% increase of applications for the first three months of this year.
Figures also show that requests from Britain and Northern Ireland were up 68% in the first quarter of 2017.
A department spokesperson said the fallout from the UK’S exit from the EU is the main contributing factor for the surge in applications.
