Hospital sources have advised people to stay away from the Mater’s A&E dept. due to severe overcrowding.

Wherever possible, the public should attend their GP first, or alternatively, the Rapid Injury Clinic in Smithfield.

In view of the crisis, the CEO of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group, Doctor Susan O’Reilly, has said that:

“This is the time of year where you certainly do see infectious diseases, we always anticipate a surge right now, we are all doing our utmost to address it,
“Certainly meeting weekly with the nurse’s union, to ensure we are monitoring very carefully how best we implement the full escalation protocol that we have in place in order to patients get admitted as promptly as possible.”
