Peter Boylan has resigned from the board of the National Maternity Hospital

The former master of Holles St, Peter Boylan has resigned today from the board of the new National Maternity Hospital.

Speaking about this resignation, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said that “it’s up to himself” as to what he’s going to do.

Kenny went on to say that the new National Maternity Hospital will be on the campus of St Vincent’s and that the entire debate will come to a conclusion over the coming weeks.

He said:
“What we want to do is put in place a legally waterproof situation where it will be perfectly clear for everybody that what’s at stake here is proper world class facilities for expectant mothers and pregnant women”.

Much debate has happened over the proposed new hospital including Catholics who don’t want the religious order to hand over the hospital to the State in case of an abortion being carried out on its premises.
