Women will soon be able to boost their sex drive with what people in the states are calling a female version of Viagra or “Pink Viagra”.

However, unlike Viagra, the pill does not affect blood flow to the genitals, rather, it boosts the level of chemicals in the brain.

This is the third time that the pill, with the chemical name Flibanserin and market name of Addyi, was put before the board.

The pill, which is manufactured by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, was rejected twice for side effects such as nausea and dizziness, but was given the go ahead yesterday by The FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

The pill is intended for pre menopausal women or women with HSSD, hypoactive sexual desire disorder who have absent sexual thoughts and desires due to various factors such as cancer, depression, surgery, diabetes and so on.

The tablet is taken daily and should not be mixed with alcohol and will only be available through certified health care professionals and certified pharmacies.

Like any other form of medication the pill has shown some side effects with 1 in 5 women showing symptoms of drowsiness, dizziness and fainting.
