Paul Cantlie, the elderly father of John Cantlie, the British photojournalist currently being held hostage by IS militants, has died at the age of 81 following some pneumonia-related complications.
Mr. Cantlie had recently made an emotional appeal for the safe return of his son, but has now passed away without even knowing if the appeal ever reached his son’s captors, or what has become of him.
John Cantlie has been held captive for almost two years.
In a video message released last September, Paul Cantlie had said that he felt ‘abandoned’ by the British Government and that the West faces ‘another Vietnam’ in its war against IS.
