Pole Position: Fate Of The Furious set to claim over a $1bn at the global box office after second consecutive week at the top




The Fast and Furious series is showing no signs of slowing down as the eight isntallment of the series The Fate Of The Furious claimed the top spot at the US box office this weekend.

The movie which stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson took pole position after earning $38.7 million (£30.1 million) over the weekend.

The movie which is the first in the series not to feature Paul Walker (other than Tokyo Drift) since his tragic death in 2013, is well on its way to take in over a billion dollars in revenue after it claimed $908.4m at the global box office over the past two weeks.

Given its recent success Universal have also given the green light to further films in the franchise which are scheduled to be released in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
