Police in the U.S. have released the identity of the suspect behind the horrific Orlando mass shooting at a gay nightclub over the weekend.
The sickening attack which saw 50 innocent people being brutally killed was allegedly planned and perpetrated by 29-year-old Omar Mateen from Port St Lucie, Florida.
Police say Mr Mateen was armed with both an assault rifle and a handgun when he started his killing spree at the popular Pulse nightclub.
According to various reports stateside there was in the region of 300 people inside the club at the time when Mateen carried out his brutal attack that has been dubbed the worst mass shooting in American history.
It is believed Mateen claimed responsibility for the attack when he called 911 and swore allegiance to IS before he began the shooting.
Police say Mateen was an American citizen and he was born in New York, but his parents were immigrants from Afghanistan.
