Police authorities in Rome have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the assault of Irishman Sean Cox in Liverpool last April.
The arrest comes as Mr Cox, from Dunboynne, Co Meath, was left critically injured outside Anfield Stadium.
Police in the Italian capital say the 30-year-old man was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant on suspicion of assault.
It is believed the man appeared before a court in Rome on Saturday, and has been remanded in custody.
The man’s arrest comes after two other men have been arrested and charged with assault following the incident which occurred before Liverpool’s clash with Roma in the Champions League semi-final.
The man is due to appear before court again for an extradition hearing.
