Police in the UK have found a three-year-old boy found wandering the streets barefoot and alone in Birmingham City.

A member of the public found the child on Chesterton Road in Sparkbrook (image above) in the City , they then alerted police just before 10pm last night.

The young boy believed to be of Somalian ethnicity was taken to a local police station and is now being looked after by Social Services.

A spokesman for the Birmingham East Police force said efforts to find his family locally have since drawn a blank but we are hopeful of finding them soon.

The child was thought to be around four years old, was unable to provide officers with his name or any other details.

It has since been announced that police have managed to track down his family. It is understood the young boys father contacted police this morning, to report his son missing.

Chief Inspector Ian Green, from Birmingham East Police, has since released a statement in which he said : “We are very relieved to be able to hand back the little boy back to his family.

“We will of course be investigating how the boy got out of the house and we’ll be speaking with the family. “We would like to thank local people and the media for their help, we really appreciate all the shares and re-tweets on social media which we know has reached hundreds of thousands of people.”
