Police investigating a serious assault on a woman in Strabane say the attack may have had a homophobic motive

Police in the North have revealed they currently suspect that the motive for a brutal attack on woman in Strabane may have been homophobic.

The investigation comes after the 38 year old woman who is in critical but stable condition in hospital was attacked by a youth on Railway Street at approximately 2am Saturday morning.

Police have confirmed that a 17 year old youth had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The nature of the attack has been described as barbaric after the teenager used a cordless drill in the attack which caused the woman to recieve a serious injury to the head.

Police are also appealing for anyone with any information in regards to the attack to contact them at Strabane Police Station or Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
