Politics and Society is set to be introduced as a Leaving Certificate subject next year.
Approximately 25 schools around the country are introducing it into their syllabus for 5th year students from 2016 but CAO points are not to be awarded until 2018.
An announcement inviting teachers and students to take part will take place next week.
