In who many are describing as a truly great Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis celebrated a special mass in Rome today for the world’s travelling community.

In attendance were families of the travelling community who were affected by the horrific Carrickmines fire in Dublin just over two weeks ago.

The first claimed the lives of 10 people, including a 6 month old baby girl.

The fire was described by Pope Francis as “deeply sad”, and that travellers are at the heart of the Church.

Alison Nevin from a travelling community in Swords, Dublin, was hugged and embraced by Pope Francis after he celebrated mass and walked down to meet the thousands in attendance.
