The government had been warned innumerable times about potential blow-back in relation to abortion legislation, now that blow-back has come to pass.
It’s looking increasingly likely from a number of leading doctors that The Liberal spoke with, that there will be some form of legal action taken in relation to an eventual proposed abortion legislation.
A number of concerned doctors have said that they will have absolutely no hand, act or part in ending the life of an unborn child, in other words they won’t particiape in an abortion procedure.
A member of the Medico-Legal Alliance has said that the country’s draft abortion law could face an extremely lengthy and serious legal challenge similar to that of the Asher’s Bakery freedom of conscience case.
Ben Ó Floinn, Senior Council, has said that such a challenge could become necessary in order to secure a wide-ranging freedom of conscience for doctors who will not provide terminations.
