Power delay: ESB say it may take some time for repair works to be completed as over 78,000 customers are still without power this morning

There are currently 78,000 customers across the country still without power this morning following storm Ophelia the ESB has confirmed.

In a statement late last night the electricity provider confirmed that they have successfully restored power to over 306,000 homes in the past few days, but they have admitted their engineers along with reinforcements from the UK and France have a lot of work to carryout in the coming days.

Although the comapny say they have managed to reconnect customers in most areas, many customers in the south and southeast are still without power this morning.

The ESB say they will provide an update on how long it will take to carryout repair works at midday today but they have warned customers that it may take some time to restore power to all homes and businesses across the country.
