U.S President Donald Trump has withdrawn the United States from the Iran Nuclear Deal Framework that was negotiated during the Obama administration.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) restricted Iranian access to nuclear material and enriched uranium, a substance that can be used to both peaceful energy purposes and nuclear weapons, was negotiated between the UN security council as well as Germany and Iran in 2015.

In return for their agreement sanctions against Iran were eased and the threat of military action against the country was lessened.

Trump has long been a harsh critic of the Iran nuclear deal which has seen the country enjoy a windfall of billions of dollars after the loosening of economic sanctions.

However, recently Israel has asserted that Iran is in fact continuing a secret nuclear weapons programme and has come close to conflict with its arch rival over its involvement in the Syrian civil war.

The U.S will now reinstate the sanctions against Iran and impose new even harsher sanctions.

The Iranian government has said that it will respond to this decision but has not yet given any details as to how.
