The former GAA President and Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly, has been revealed as surprise candidate to run in the next presidential election.
Mr Kelly who served at the helm of the GAA is reportedly considering his options when it comes to an Aras bid later this year.
According to The Irish Examiner newspaper, Mr Kelly is said to be thinking about running after he recieved repeated calls and support to run for the position.
The Irish Examiner also say although Mr Kelly is yet to formally announce his decision it is thought that the ex-GAA chief will only consider running if President Michael D Higgins decides to vacate the role.
However the prospect of an enticing presidential race is on the cards as former Taoiseach and Fianna Fail leader Bertie Ahern has also refused to rule himself out of the running.
